Carrie Underwood “flips the switch” on The Opry’s Signature Barn Backdrop, Good Morning America’s Robin Roberts Guest Announces

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (October 2, 2009) Tonight The Grand Ole Opry joined the fight against breast cancer with “Opry Goes Pink” with the help of Opry member Carrie Underwood flipping the switch on the Opry’s red signature barn backdrop to pink. Also appearing as a special guest announcer was one of America’s favorite morning news program personalities, ABC’s Good Morning America co-anchor Robin Roberts, herself a breast cancer survivor.
During tonight’s shows, the Opry’s signature barn backdrop turned pink in support of the groups Women Rock for the Cure and Susan G. Komen for the Cure®. The shows also included performances from Underwood, Terri Clark, Jo Dee Messina, Lorrie Morgan, Mindy Smith, and others along with special activities recognizing breast cancer survivors and the continuing fight against the disease.
A portion of tonight’s proceeds were donated to Women Rock for the Cure and the Greater Nashville affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
Tonight’s special event was the kick-off to the Opry’s 84th birthday month celebration.
