The Blackwood Quartet
Artist Information
With the tragedy of the loss of two members, R.W. Blackwood and Bill Lyles, fans believed this was the stop to their career. After much faith and hope in the group, R.W.’s youngest brother, Cecil Blackwood joined, the group, as well as J.D. Summer.
In 1986, Mark Blackwood became the lead singer for the gospel group, and in 2012 Mark officially formed The Blackwood Quartet. Thanks to their dedication, the group tours the nation while speaking the word of Christ through their music. This quartet has been influenced by many of their co-performers throughout the years. They have had the honor of performing with Willie Nelson, Elvis (as well as singing at his funeral) and many other influential and successful artists. Throughout the years they have also been inducted into the “Gospel Music Hall of Fame,” performed with artists across the nations, and continue to be featured in TV shows.
“We have a common goal. We take the music seriously, but not ourselves, it’s become easy to know each other’s personalities, but still love each other anyway,” says Mark. This perfectly describes the unity between this soulful gospel group.
