BONUS QUESTIONS
What is your favorite Christmas tradition?
Steven: A lot of our traditions are around food. On Christmas morning, my wife makes a huge breakfast casserole and sausage balls. We used to make them by hand, until we found out that you can find them in the frozen section of the grocery store—so everyone gets to sleep in a little bit later. We invite all the kids and grandkids to spend the night on Christmas Eve so we can all be together in the morning to see if Santa found us. And somehow, he always does.
Lorrie: The tradition I’ve always loved is going to Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve. That was something very important to me growing up and something I really worked hard as a parent to have my children with me. And of course, the children are tired and want to go home and the Mass lasts so long…but we loved being together, and that’s my favorite tradition.
What does it feel like to celebrate Christmas by performing on the Opry?
Steven: I love Christmas music—there’s nothing that stirs as much nostalgia as Christmas music. It’s the only time of year I listen to Andy Williams, Nat King Cole, and old country records like Gene Autry singing “Rudolph.” This will be my first year as a member of the Opry to sing at Opry Country Christmas, and my hope is that it’s the first of many, many years to come. I love the message of Christmas music, too—Christmas is a time that we celebrate the love of God in such a profound way. It’ll be really special to get to do that at my new home, the Opry.
What do you hope your audience feels at Opry Country Christmas?
Lorrie: I hope they feel the magic in the air that the Opry has to offer—especially around Christmas. There is magic—there’s magic here anyway… but during Christmas, everyone’s in such a lighthearted mood, even more so. I hope they walk away feeling like they got a great present.
